About Ridan Publishing

Who we are?
Ridan is a traditional publisher not a vanity press or pay-for-services organization. We are classified as a "small press" and focus on a core group of books and authors.  We carefully select our authors to ensure that all Ridan titles provide a good read that you will want to pass on to others. We are currently focusing on works of fiction. In addition to providing typical publishing activities: editing, interior layout, cover design, back of book copy, printing, electronic book production, and distribution we also provide marketing services. We are convinced that the majority of the reasons that most publishers fail is that they spend all their time and money getting the book into print and do little to nothing to promote it after release.  To that end Ridan invests significant time and utilize the Internet to promote our author's work.

Where can I buy Ridan books?
All books produce by Ridan are available on-line at major retailers such as Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and Alibris.com. They are also  available through virtually any bookstore via Ingram and Baker & Taylor Distribution services.  In general, books from "small publishers" are not routinely stocked (as shelf space is limited and in many times paid for by the large publishing houses), however, readers can always go the the Information desk with the ISBN and order the book. In some cases, the book store may require pre-payment.

While you can obtain Ridan books through standard distribution channels,  this has a significant impact on the amount of money flowing to the author as the retail chain takes 40% - 60% off the top. Whenever possible we recommend buying direct from the author either here at the Ridan Store, or through the author's homepages (many of which offer discounted books). We will always offer the books at a discount and will even provide them with author signatures if you desire.

How can I submit a book for publication?
Ridan maintains a high standard of excellence and becoming published through us is not an easy task. We receive hundreds of submissions and very few make it past the query stage, and only a handful will be added to our roster. We are primarily looking for great story tellers. Those that know how to weave a tale and understand how to develop conflict, memorable characters, and exceptional dialog. Minor flaws in grammar or punctuation can be solved through meticulous editing, but the ability to captivate an audience is the true hallmark of a great story and is an innate talent. We recommend that you review some of our author's work (sample chapters are provided throughout our site) as a comparison and if you think your writing is up to their standard then by all means we'd be interested in looking at it.  The submission guidelines are provided here:

1. Please include a cover letter with the following information:

  • Title, word count, genre, and author contact information - don't forget your email address
  • Brief description (two paragraph) summary of your work: See samples on books on this site for example

2. A one page synopsis of the novel

3. Chapters 1 - 3 OR the first 50 pages whichever is less

  • Format should be double spaced with 1" margins using Times New Roman 12 point font.
  • Use italics instead of underlining for text to be highlighted.
  • Be sure every page has your name and email in the header or footer.
  • Make sure page numbers are provided on each page

Currently we are restricting all submissions to electroinc means via email. Any manuscripts mailed will be discarded unopened. We prefer your work to be as an attachment as opposed to the body of the email.

NOTE: Failure to follow the instructions posted may result in your submission being discarded. It shouldn't have to be said, and yet we still receive submissions that don't follow these recommendations. Our time is limited and if you can't take the time to read and follow the guidelines then we wont reciprocate with investing our time. Part of what publishers are looking for are people that conduct themselves professionally and following posted guidelines is a good indication of that.

At this time we are only accepting fiction submissions. Ridan is not currently pursuing nonfiction works. Please refer to the following list for genres we are accepting submissions for:

  • Fantasy - Full novel length works, especially those in a series, we are not interested in anthologies at this time.
  • Science Fiction - Full novel length works, especially those in a series, we are not interested in anthologies at this time.
  • Teen and Tween Novels - Short story, serials, and full length novels will be considered
  • Young Adult - in any genre except romance we are actively looking to build this market
  • General fiction - Full length novels only
  • Romance & Erotica - we are sorry, we are not accepting submissions  in this genre at all

We accept both new and previously published authors, we will even consider re-publishing works that were self-published but only if the work is exceptional, and it may require editing, layout, and cover design to bring it inline with Ridan's quality standards.  An agent representative is not required. Please allow 6 - 8 weeks for review. If you have not heard about your submission feel free to query as to its status.

You can send us an documents via email to ridan.publishing@gmail.com (Please indicate QUERY SUBMISSION in the subject line)
